Introduction

What I do: Help our clients achieve their goal of creating memories by providing a wide selection of photography services. We photograph everything from babies to Senior citizens, We also have a deluxe Photo Booth for providing pictures that you keep not just throw in a drawer. Our clients have told us we take more time to find out what they want than just sit them down and start taking pictures. I don't like to think of it as a J O B. We like working with people and capturing the image they are looking for from a basic business head shot to a creative senior or ladies glamour session. You have a constant variety of sessions during a week. Even on our seniors we do not pre plan what we are going to take. We sit down with each senior and parent when they come in and decide from their clothing what ideas they would be interested in. Sometimes even in the middle of a session ideas will come up. We were doing a family session last summer and the children were just being their age and I suggested we do a fun shot of just the children at the end and we turned them loose on a bale of straw and captured a picture the parents just loved. It reminded her of the children when they played at home.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We don't have a complicated pricing system. All are prints are sold by the print so you have no waste. Too many times studios are still pricing their prints in packages and the client has to purchase more prints than needed to get what they need or pay high ala carte prices. In days past when we had film that is the way our color labs sold prints to us at the best cost but now with the electronic capture we buy prints by the square inch so we can sell to our clients by the sizes they need. We can also now get prints in sizes that were never available in years past because of the newer technology.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We like to have some type of contact with them prior to the session. We prefer to have an in studio consultation if possible. Sitting down with the client prior to the session results in better portraits. It gives the client and ourselves a chance to know each other and the clients are more relaxed. Also a big item is clothing. A clothing consultation can make or break how the final portrait will look.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Yes we do continuing education through various means. We attend conventions that specialize in senior and family portraits. We watch on line programs, We get several magazine and online articles that pertain to the different types of photography we do and we are part of online forums where we can study articles by other photographers and study types of lighting and posing that are posted by other photographers. When at conventions we also spend a lot of time discussing the trade with other photographers and suppliers to keep up with the latest in ideas.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was interested in photography as a child as a hobby and it just grew from there.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Our most common types of photography is High School senior portraits, followed by families either on location (in your home or favorite park) or at the studio. We also go to Lake Michigan for senior or family portraits. We have done some at the seniors home to show awards or activities the senior has been involved with. We also do quite a few glamour portraits.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
A lady came in for a simple maternity photograph but we did multiple setups and a few outfit changes and she was so happy.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Don't call and just get price. Make an appointment to see what the studio offers. Are they able to do what you are looking to purchase? We do not charge for consultation appointments, we prefer if possible for our clients to come in and discuss what they are looking for. Are you looking for traditional portraits or something with a lot of computer graphics. Do you want your prints with special retouching, in albums, special artwork, special mounting or framing, glossy, black and white, canvas? Not all studios do the same type of work on some of the items mentioned.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
That we do quality work at a reasonable investment.
